Friday night we helped process Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes at Samaritan's Purse. K and I were assigned to the ambulance/hospital. We now like to refer to ourselves as Nurse K and Chief D. You're more than welcome to start addressing us by these titles as well.
We ferried shoeboxes in critical condition from the ambulances to the hospital; when there were few on the ambulance, we busied ourselves in the hospital itself. Nurse K focused on the wounded and I assisted with the rare cases that fell into the "I just don't know what to do with this one" category. Few of the patients in that ward made it through the night. Nurse K, on the other hand, had a very high success rate. One might even qualify it as "perfect."
Nurse K discovered a talent for aiding shoeboxes that were facing gender-identification crises. By gender-identification crises, we're referring to the ones that either had no sticker indicating whether they were meant for a boy or a girl, or the ones that had both.
If you've never helped process OCC shoeboxes at the Samaritan's Purse warehouses and you actually live near enough to one to be able to do this, you need to do it. It's sooooooooo fun. And you never know - you may discover a hidden talent or two...
