Les Rocheuses canadiennes

If you've never driven through the Canadian Rockies, let me introduce you to a few of the sites you'd see if you were to do so. If you have, well, let this be a walk down Memory Lane.

As you head west, this is probably one of the best scenes you'll see - the promise of exiting the flat yellowlands and entering the twisting roads and towering, majestic heights of the Rockies:

Getting closer...

In case you can't tell, it was a beautiful day for a drive through the mountains:

Don't forget the snowsheds...

Well, it was a beautiful day for most of the 11-hour drive - except for this portion near (you guessed it) Revelstoke.

North of Kamloops - far beyond the mountains now, heading north towards the Cariboo.

musings from the mall

So I'm going to this big awards ceremony this week for work and it's black tie.

Logical deduction would dictate that I must therefore find myself in the possession of something appropriate in the apparel department for such an event.

Though not overly-feminine as a female (have I ever been? uuuuuuuum no), I still seem to display the typically-female trait of not wanting to wear anything currently in existence in my closet. That being said, please keep in mind the fact that my un-femininity has resulted in very slim pickings with regards to said closet. Except for the million bridesmaid dresses I've accumulated. All of which are fancier than I want to wear to this event, especially as one of my group's organizers.

Moving along.

I made myself a smoothie and hopped in my car to head to the mall. A couple of weeks ago I put a special request in at the Christian bookstore for two books, and they're now in, so I decided to take a detour (okay, it wasn't really a detour, it was more like a this-is-completely-out-of-my-way-but-I-want-to-pick-these-up-before-they-get-put-out-on-the-shelves-for-anyone-else-to-buy trip) and stop at the bookstore on my way to the mall. According to their website, the store is open until 9 pm on Mondays; according to the store itself when I pulled into the parking lot at 6:20 pm, it was already closed. So this little detour turned into an I-haven't-driven-down-this-particular-city-street-in-at-least-a-week-so-why-don't-I-do-that trip as I made my way back out of downtown and headed for the mall.

I parked in the mall parking lot (riveting detail, I know - keep your socks on please) and walked into (you guessed it) the mall. First stop - one of the best stores in the universe - aka Jacob. I tried a few things on and left with a new purchase - a nice new sweater that, after I'd decided to buy it, I realized would match one of my skirts and I could therefore wear it to the event if I didn't find anything else. Happy little me.

A few stores later, I realized I'd been walking around with my fly down.

Like I said to my coworker today - I'm a walking fashion statement. Take my word for it.

After walking through the rest of the mall, I popped into the pet store (how can you ever walk past a pet store), stroked a sleeping kitty's head, stared at the geckos and some really weird fish and listened in amusement to the African Grey wolf-whistling to the few stragglers straggling through the mall. Or maybe I'm wrong and he was wolf-whistling to himself. Or me. After all. Fashion Icon Herself - Right There In The Flesh. Who wouldn't whistle?

I left the mall with my mind still lingering on the dress I fell in love with at one of the stores. Good thing I didn't try it on - if it had fit, I would be $200 poorer (even though I balk at the idea of paying $200 for a dress); if it didn't fit, you'd have a moper on your hands. Well. If you were here, in general proximity to me, you would have a moper on your hands. At any rate, you would have evidence of my occasional moments of yes-I-am-a-girl seizures.

And that, ladies and gentlemen - or lady and gentleman - or lady or gentleman - was my Monday evening. How was yours?
